The glories of the Veneto
Join us on the shores of the blue Adriatic for a holiday that includes visits to the ancient university city of Padua, and to incomparable Venice - La Serenissima. Stay in the 'Blue Riband' resort of Lido di Jesolo, relax, unwind and perhaps join us as we visit Shakespeare's Verona, beautiful Lake Garda, exquisite Florence and medieval Treviso on a programme of fascinating optional excursions.
Single rooms are available for a supplement
Lido di Jesolo is dedicated to holidaymaking, whether you're bathing in the sea, lying beneath a parasol, strolling along the beachfront or sitting in a pavement cafe. In the evenings, the resort comes alive, with bars and pleasant cafes in which to pass an hour or two before the day is done.
Outward travel from your selected airport to Italy, and onward transfer to your hotel.
Spend the day relaxing at the hotel or exploring the surrounding area. Our Tour Manager will be happy to suggest places to visit and things to do.
On today's optional excursion, we explore "fair Verona", the historic backdrop for the tragic tale of "Juliet and her Romeo", and home to the famous opera season held yearly in its Roman amphitheatre and bustling, cafe-lined Piazza Bra.
From Verona we continue to Lake Garda, Italy's largest and most spectacular lake. Here we'll soak up the atmosphere in wonderful Sirmione, and the fairy-tale castle and hot springs that have drawn visitors since Roman times.
our included half-day excursion today introduces you to the ancient city of Padua. Lovingly restored after WWII, this former Roman stronghold, is a delightful, enchanting university city with outstanding museums, great churches, colourful markets and - in Prato della Valle - what is said to be Italy's largest town square.
Revel in the wonders of Florence, Italy's beautiful Renaissance capital, on today's optional excursion. See the magnificent Florentine skyline, explore Santa Croce and cross the medieval Ponte Vecchio. For art lovers, the Accademia houses Michelangelo's peerless statue of David, and the Uffizi, Botticelli's exquisite 'Birth of Venus' (gallery entrances payable locally).
On today's included excursion you'll explore incomparable Venice. With its labyrinth of alleys and waterways, spectacular St Mark's Square and Cathedral, the Doge's Palace, the Rialto Bridge and the mystique of the Palace of Prisons and the Bridge of Sighs, Venice has to be seen to be believed.
The last of our half-day optional excursions combines the restored beauty of the delightful walled provincial capital Treviso, with its own network of canals and waterways, with a visit to a rustic wine farm where there'll be a chance to sample the local offering direct from the cellar. (The excursion also includes a typical Italian lunch.)
Transfer back to the airport for check-in and your flight home.
The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is 30 minutes from Venice and three hours from Verona.
