Itinerary

Day One

Fly to Boston, and transfer to your hotel in Nantasket, close to the city, and your hotel base for the first night.

Day Two

Today you'll head into Boston, America's most 'European' city. Join the optional city tour and discover its rich history as you take in sights including the gold-domed State House overlooking Boston Common and the cobbled streets of wealthy Beacon Hill.

This afternoon, board the coach for the scenic journey south into New York State, and to Long Island for a two-night stay.

Day Three

An unforgettable day, as you cross the Hudson River to Manhattan, the heart of the incomparable Big Apple. Shop, take in the world-famous sights, or join our wonderful optional excursions, which include a breathtaking helicopter ride and a guided city tour, during which Central Park, Fifth Avenue and the Empire State Building will be thrillingly revealed.

Day Four

This morning we head south to the Virginia state capital, Richmond, your base for the next three nights. En route we'll visit the US capital, Washington DC, where there will be a short optional guided city tour. See the sights of this centre of world power - Capitol Hill, the Lincoln Memorial and the White House.

Day Five

Today you'll enjoy our included tour of the fabled Blue Ridge Mountains, whose natural wonders can be explored along scenic Skyline Drive, and in beautiful Shenandoah National Park. This afternoon, you'll visit exquisite Charlottesville, where early America is lovingly preserved in ancient magnolia-lined streets.

Day Six

Step back in time on today's wonderful optional excursion to the living museum that is Colonial Williamsburg, northernmost point of America's Historic Triangle, and discover what life was like in the pioneering days of the 18th Century.

Day Seven

On your last day in the States you'll journey south, visiting an outlet centre for the chance to shop for designer brands at discount prices, before heading to Raleigh Durham to board your flight home.

Day Eight

Arrive back home, after an overnight flight.

Further Information

The American arrivals process

British Citizens travelling to the USA now have to register online with US Immigration at least 72 hours before departure. We will send you the details you will need to complete your online registration, along with your tickets, about two weeks prior to travel. A charge of $14US per person applies to this process.

Departure dates and fall colours

Since the tour covers a large distance, from Massachusetts to southern Virginia, Fall foliage colours will naturally vary. On early departures, leaves are more likely to have turned in the northern areas covered, whereas on later dates, it is the more southern areas that will be most notable, with leaf-fall having already occurred further north.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted on any coach forming part of your holiday; regular stops will be made though for your comfort en route. The majority of hotels in North America are non-smoking throughout including in all bedrooms. In general smoking outside is acceptable, but do look out for signs prohibiting this close to public entrances or bus stops.

Tipping

Gratuities are a way of life in North America, and it is generally accepted that they form part of a person's earnings. Customary gratuity to a coach driver or tour manager is about $3 per person per day; in a taxi or a restaurant leave 12-15 per cent of the bill and, in the bar, leave a dollar or so per drink.
