The glorious Pacific coast
"California is the place to be" runs the popular song, and it's not wrong! Its two most fascinating cities - beautiful San Francisco and sprawling Los Angeles - and its stunning coastline are combined with a journey to Vegas's glitz and glamour, and the Grand Canyon's awesome splendour, to create a truly unforgettable holiday!
Single rooms are available for a supplement
Fly west, across the North Atlantic and down to San Francisco. Coach transfer to your hotel and a two-night stay.
Explore the fabled 'City by the Bay'. Join our optional guided tour and, after a short introduction to this colourful cosmopolitan city we'll cross the Golden Gate Bridge to pretty Sausalito. Explore this former haunt of Beat poets and artists, before returning to the city by ferry, passing the Golden Gate Bridge and forbidding Alcatraz Island, then perhaps explore the colourful bustle of Fisherman's Wharf and its many shops.
This evening, why not head for Chinatown, or dine out in style on Nob Hill? The choice - and the pleasure - is all yours.
Board the coach and head south down the Pacific Coast Highway, calling at Steinbeck's Monterey and exquisite Carmel-by-the-Sea, which are linked by the stunning, scenic 17-Mile Drive. This evening, you'll stay in Pismo Beach, a classic California coastal town.
Continue south to Hollywood for a glimpse of 'Tinsel Town', before crossing the bustling, breathtaking expanse of Los Angeles to Anaheim, where southern California really begins, for a two-night stay.
Explore at your leisure, perhaps paying a visit to the original Disneyland Park, housed in Anaheim. Alternatively, join our optional excursion to the sun-blessed vineyards of the Temecula Valley and the glittering coastal city of San Diego, one of California's most sparkling jewels.
Today you'll make the journey to Nevada, and to Laughlin, a 'Vegas in Miniature' on the Colorado River, and your base for the next two nights.
The awesome glories and breath-taking natural splendour of the fabled Grand Canyon are yours to savour today on our included visit. An optional flight over the Canyon, on either a light aircraft or a helicopter, is the experience of a lifetime.
Journey across the Nevada Desert, for an unforgettable two-night stay in the extraordinary oasis of improbable opulence and glamour that is Las Vegas. Join our Vegas by Night optional excursion, which culminates in the stunning 'dancing' fountains at the Bellagio Hotel, then perhaps head to a casino to try your luck at the tables or on the 'slots'.
A day at leisure in Las Vegas, though many will want to return to the Grand Canyon on our optional 'Skywalk' excursion. Return to the Grand Canyon, and enjoy a West Rim helicopter ride and visit to a cowboy ranch. Alternatively, stay firmly on the ground, and join our optional excursion to the engineering wonder that is the Hoover Dam, which holds back the waters of mighty, man-made Lake Mead.
This evening, perhaps end your trip with a helicopter flight over the city - perhaps the world's most breathtaking 'illuminations' ride.
This morning you'll return to Los Angeles and check in for your flight home.
Arrive back home, after an overnight flight.
British Citizens travelling to the USA now have to register online with US Immigration at least 72 hours before departure. We will send you the details you will need to complete your online registration, along with your tickets, about two weeks prior to travel. A charge of $14US per person applies to this process.
Smoking is not permitted on any coach forming part of your holiday; regular stops will be made though for your comfort en route. The majority of hotels in North America are non-smoking throughout including in all bedrooms. In general smoking outside is acceptable, but do look out for signs prohibiting this close to public entrances or bus stops.
Gratuities are a way of life in North America, and it is generally accepted that they form part of a person's earnings. Customary gratuity to a coach driver or tour manager is about $3 per person per day; in a taxi or a restaurant leave 12-15 per cent of the bill and, in the bar, leave a dollar or so per drink.
