Resort Information
Sardinia is the Mediterranean's second largest island. Its stunning beaches are among the Mediterranean's cleanest, and the quiet hamlets inland exist untroubled by the sun seekers who make the island their summer home.
Alghero
A picturesque fishing port, Alghero is the Spanish-influenced principle town of the island's north-west coast. The cobbled streets of its Old Quarter open onto a harbour lined with bars and restaurants. Relax at the hotel, head for the beach, sit in a pavement cafe or explore the area's chic stores.
Itinerary
During your stay, you can choose to join a selection of great-value excursions to many places of interest.
Day One
Outward travel from your selected airport to Italy, and onward transfer to your hotel.
Day Two
Spend the day relaxing at the hotel or exploring the surrounding area. Our Tour Manager will be happy to suggest places to visit and things to do.
Day Three
Step aboard the elegant motor launch 'Paola' for today's optional cruise along the beautiful coast and out across blue waters to the rocky promontory of Cabo Caccia. Here the famous 'Neptune's Grotto' is the largest of a series of sea caves, fantastically curved into the limestone rock.
The cruise also includes a visit to nearby Foradada Island, opportunities for a dip in the crystal clear sea, and the chance to enjoy a delicious seafood lunch on board (payable locally).
Day Four
On today's wonderful optional excursion we'll head to the port of Santa Teresa di Gallura, and board a ferry to the French island of Corsica and the exquisite natural harbour and stunning fortified town of Bonifacio. Climb up to enjoy the stunning views from the famous medieval haute ville, and wander the old port and shop for local handicrafts and produce.
Day Five
Stintino, our destination on today's optional excursion, is a typical Sardinian fishing port. Here, boats are still made and worked by hand from the village's twin harbours. Further north along the Pelosa promontory we'll sample the delights of Pelosa Beach, with its views of the islands of Plana and Asinara.
Day Six
Join us on an excursion to the Costa Smeralda, 10 kilometres of tastefully developed, reclaimed coastline that has become a playground of the wealthy. Hidden coves, offshore islets and the unusual architecture of the 'capital' Porto Cervo all add to the charm of this unique location.
Day Seven
The first stop on our final full-day optional excursion is Bosa - a delightful fishing village where basket weavers and lace makers tempt you with their traditional wares. We then travel inland to Torralba, where excavation has revealed the finest example of the prehistoric 'nuraghi' settlements that dot the island.
Day Eight
Transfer back to the airport for check-in and your flight home.
Further Information
Wining and dining
Sardinian cuisine mixes Italian and Spanish influences, making liberal use of fresh herbs to augment simply grilled seafood, fish and meat. Lobster and suckling pig are local specialities, as is fish stew and the caviar substitute bottarga.
You'll find local red and white wines robust and rustic but very drinkable, as is Vernaccia: a heavy, sherry-like wine that comes sweet or dry.
Transfer Times
The transfer time to your hotel is approximately 30 minutes from Alghero Airport and two hours from Olbia Airport.
