Resort Information
Set between the Bernese Oberland and Lake Geneva, Chateau d'Oex is a perfect holiday base, offering a host of modern amenities and a wealth of traditional charm. There are shops, restaurants, a fascinating folk museum, a cable car and walking trails, or for the adventurous, even hot-air ballooning and white-water rafting!
Itinerary
Day One
Fly to Geneva and transfer to Chateau d'Oex (approximately two hours). Our Tour Manager will meet you and be on hand to help throughout your holiday.
Day Two
Explore Chateau d'Oex, or join our optional full-day tour of the Bernese Oberland. Travelling through stunning countryside, we take in scenic Lake Thun and the bustling resort of Interlaken, as well as spectacular Grindelwald at the foot of the mighty Eiger.
Day Three
This morning's optional excursion is to the famous resort of Gstaad, haunt of celebrities and the well-heeled. Star-spot or window-shop in the high street, take a seat in a tea-room or a peek at the celebrated Palace Hotel, and take in the beauty of the surrounding Saanenland region.
Day Four
Join our included excursion to exquisite, medieval Gruyeres, where you'll learn how the celebrated cheese is made. Continue down to Lake Geneva's sunny shores and elegant Montreux, home to the famous Jazz Festival and a delightful promenade, and close to brooding Chateau Chillon, Switzerland's most famous landmark.
Day Five
Today's optional excursion is to Switzerland's historic heartland, once home to legendary Wilhelm Tell. You'll visit the lakeside city of Luzern, with its famous Chapel Bridge and marvellous Transport Museum, perhaps boarding a steamer to enjoy the stunning scenery from the water.
Day Six
Our final optional tour is to Bern, surely one of Europe's most picturesque capitals - its medieval houses, great churches and covered shopping arcades all perched above a sweeping meander in the River Aare. Be sure to see - and hear - the fascinating mechanical clock in Zytglogge Tower strike the hour.
Day Seven
Transfer back to Geneva Airport for check-in your flight home.
Further Information
Wining and dining
There's more to Swiss food than fondue and raclette, though both should be sampled during your stay. Soups are plentiful, as are cold meats and salads. Try roesti - waxy potatoes, grated and fried - with a bratwurst or fried egg. Many places offer all-you-can-eat buffets, and department-store or supermarket restaurants are great value.
Swiss beers are excellent, while the local wines, from grapes grown on the sun-blessed slopes of the Rhone Valley above Lake Geneva, are a well-kept secret. Dry, fruity Fendant white and full-bodied red Dole should certainly be tried.
